Time has passed since we could not give up on Pietro’s focaccias, a real MUST for entire generations!
When you’d heard his voice shouting “pizza, focaccia, bomboloniiiii” you couldn’t resist it: a guaranteed snack on the beach!
Then he opened a café, half in between a pizzeria and a sandwich bar where Pietro’s specialties were hot stuffed focaccine; with clams sauce, with cheese and peas cream, with Parma ham and mozzarella; not to forget his legendary strawberries tart! Now Pietro has closed down, but the tradition continues. You can’t visit Forte dei Marmi without enjoying this specialty! The legitimate heir of Pietro is certainly Orlando, who has been able to keep the same taste and style, very familiar and informal. But the prices are really high …
I highly recommend Alessio. Over the past few years he has been collecting the tradition of stuffed focaccia. He has created a very pleasant environment, in town center with tables outside (pedestrian area) and the prices are affordable.
Another local type of focaccia is called “schiacciatina”, small and round, with coarse salt on top. When in Forte, it is a must to go to Valè, in Piazza del fortino, to get 5, 10 or even more schiacciatinas. But my opinion is that over time Valè lost quality. Instead, I recommend Bresciani, in via Carrara, just 100m from my B & B. Every day from 6:30 pm he churns out hundreds of fabulous schiacciatinas, ready to be collected on the way back from the beach, cycling and munching through the narrow streets of town.
Happy focaccia folks!!
